About Mr. Yastremski

Mr. David Yastremski began at Ridge High School in September of 1996.  In the past twenty-eight years, he has served the district as an English Language Arts teacher, an instructional coach, and a professional development trainer. 

In 1998, Mr. Yastremski created the Ridge Forensics team with five students.  Since then, the Ridge  Forensics - Speech and Debate - Team has grown to achieve at the state and national levels including 27 consecutive state championship team titles and fifteen national champion student titles.

Mr. Yastremski is a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) and a five-diamond coach with the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). He currently serves as Chair of the New Jersey district of the NSDA, Vice-President of the Newark Catholic Forensic League, and Treasurer of the Somerset County Education Association.

He was inducted into the NSDA Hall of Fame, the University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions Coach Hall of Fame, and received the National Federation of State High School Association Citation in 2024. In 2022, he was awarded a National Federation of High Schools Outstanding Educator in Speech, Debate, and Theater Award.  In 2011, he was awarded the Marcella E. Oberle Award for Outstanding Teaching in Grades K-12  by the National Communication Association.  He is currently pursuing his doctorate at Rockhurst University (Kansas City, MO). 

He continues to serve on various advisory panels for the National Communication Association, the New Jersey Department of Education, the New Jersey Education Association, the Education Testing Service, the and National Speech and Debate Association.

Mr. Yastremski is married to Mrs. Yastremski who works with St. Hubert's Animal Rescue.  They enjoy spending time with their many nieces/nephews while taking care of their dog, Mena.
